A Round of Compassion: Lessons from the ‘Lost Ball’ Team

An engineer, a priest, and a doctor are trying to enjoying a round ofgolf. Ahead ofthem is a group playing so slowlyand inexpertly that in frustration the three ask the greenkeeper for an explanation. The greenkeeper, a weathered man with a wry smile, shook his head knowingly. “Ah, that’s the ‘Lost Ball’ team,” he said.

“The ‘Lost Ball’ team?” the engineer questioned.

The greenkeeper nodded. “Yes, they’re a group of employees from the local mental institution. Sometimes, they come out here to play and enjoy some fresh air. You see, for them, the game is more about the therapy than the score.”
